1. WW2 German Air Force "Fatso Gorings" Soup Spoon
WW2 German Air Force large size spoon, dated 1939. US GI veteran who brought it back told me with a big smile that due to the spoons size it must have been "Fatso Gorings Soup Spoon". Top side has nice deeply stamped in German Air Force Eagle emblem, bottom has makers mark and the date of manufacture. Spoon is made of very light weight metal to facilitate equipment transport by air, where weight is a critical factor.
2. c.WW1 US 1st Division Circus stein/mug, German made
US Army First Division Circus stein/mug, occupied Germany made in 1919. Has emblems of the US 3rd Army (AO - Army of Occupation) left, WW1 US 1st Division (Big Red One) in wreath right, and cowboy riding a bucking horse center with "First Division Circus" lettering above, and "Montabaur Germany July 11 & 12, 1919" lettering below - see photo details provided. On the metal lid is hand engraved "Geo. B. King", "Co A", "2nd M.G. Bn.", "A.E.F.", meaning he was in the second Machine Gun Battalion of the Allied Expeditionary Force. Two New York Times articles can be found online about this event, which was reportedly attended by over 10,000 US soldiers from the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Divisions, and as well viewed afar by thousands of local Germans. This unique event included elephants, bears, camels, and ponies of the Hagenbeck Circus, with US soldiers doing the bareback horse riding as Wild West cowboys and indians, and in Ancient Roman style chariot races. Clown, tight rope walkers, and rider costumes were made by local German girls in spite of US Army anti-fraternization regulations. For dinner was served Western Barbecue and Chop Suey, with some 20,000 bottles of soda, and 5,000 bottles of beer. The YMCA provided the cabaret. Parade float theme was the four major operations that the division engaged in during the war.
